Long hair is any hairstyle which is relatively long long hair has become a lifestyle and trend.

(This hub is an attempt to bring you useful information about long hair along with sexy pics of long-haired girls/babes/women…)Exactly what “long hair” is can change from culture to culture, or even within cultures. For example, a woman with chin-length hair may be said to have short hair, while a man with the same length of hair could be said to have long hair.

The traditional definition of “long hair” in English meant, roughly, someone artistically knowledgable or wise, an aesthete. As a descriptive term, it has been applied to Merovingians and classical music enthusiasts, as well as hippies and aesthetes.

Importance

Hair is one of the most important ways humans have of both presenting themselves and judging one another socially, being one of the parts of their body which is easiest to manipulate. Throughout many cultures, hair is seen as representing sexual control over oneself-those having long hair having less control than those having shorter or no hair.

Also, having short, cut hair, is often viewed as being under society’s control, while having long hair signifies being outside of the systems of society.Washing Long Hair

When people think of washing hair correctly, they think of choosing the right shampoo and conditioner. The fact of the matter is, improper washing styles can cause a great deal of damage to long hair.

Here are the steps you can take when washing long hair, to help avoid damage and breakage.

Brush hair before washing. This will help to lessen the amount of tangles you’ll get when you wash.
Thoroughly wet hair. Do not scrunch hair, or lift it on top of your head. Allow the hair to flow naturally down your back and just let the water saturate your hair.
Apply your shampoo. Again, do not scrunch hair or pile it onto your head. Apply shampoo to the scalp, and massage into your hair and scalp.
Rinse the shampoo from your hair. As the water rinses the shampoo from the top of your head, it will cleanse your hair that is hanging down your back. There is no need to roughly wash the delicate ends of hair. As the shampoo is rinsed from the top of your head, it will adequately clean the ends of your hair as well. Continue reading »

Most clients’ bangs grow out before the haircut does causing them tress duress. I like to show my clients how to do a home bang trim so they don’t butcher them. First I comb down the entire bang section, making sure to get all of the hair that is meant to be the bangs. Do this on dry hair only because wet hair will shrink when dry making the bangs much shorter than desired. Take each side of the bangs at the corners and gather them to the middle pinching them at the bridge of the nose. You now have a small point of hair that is the entire bang section that can be cut in one straight across small clip. Cut at the level of the bridge of the nose, any higher than this level may leave the hair too short. The bangs will fall longer at the sides of the face and slightly shorter in the center. I find this arching shape to be more pleasing than the straight across line look. For added texture and softness to the ends you can point cut an 1/8″ up to ½” into the ends closing the scissors as you pull away from the ends. This quick fix works well with practice and will get you through until you see your stylist again.

1. Protein Conditioner
Mix a dollop of mayonnaise (protein and conditioning) with an egg (protein) and apply to hair. Twist hair up on head and put on a shower cap so the heat speeds up the penetration. Leave on as long as desired, then rinse in cool or tepid water. Hot water will cook the egg, making it nearly impossible to get out!

**I really like this. I left it on for almost an hour one day, and it worked great! I had to shampoo my hair gently to get rid of the greasy mayonnaise, and then conditioned with my regular conditioner. It revitalized my hair, added softness, and shine! Big improvement!**

When you think of roller setting, you may think of your mother or grandmother’s weekly ritual after shampooing. It usually included goopy setting lotions and hair pins, plus a long time under a hooded dryer. When she was finished, she sprayed her freshly-set hair in what we lovingly refer to as “helmet hair” — hair that appeared like it wouldn’t move, even if a hurricane headed her way.

Roller setting seems to have gone out with the 1970s, but did you know that it can be one of the best things you do for your long hair? Here’s why:

Blow dryers can reach temperatures of 260-280 degrees, which can cause water inside the hair shaft to literally boil. The weakened hair shaft then bursts, breaks or splits apart. Air drying your hair is a wonderful way to go if you aren’t worried about frizzies or flyaways. But for smooth, ultra-shiny, frizz-free hair, roller setting is the way to go.

Hair Roller Setting

When I visited Dr. George Michael, the world-famous long hair expert, he showed me the correct way to roller set my hair. Continue reading »

Choosing The Proper Shampoo And Conditioner…

Not a day goes by without someone asking me what type of shampoo and conditioner they should use on their hair. Here are a few key points to keep in mind:

  1. If your hair is dry, use a shampoo and conditioner that is rich in moisturizers and emollients.
  2. For damaged hair, use a shampoo with a low pH, and use a conditioner which contains plenty of protein.
  3. Remember, thin hair needs shampoo and conditioner having protein and body building ingredients which coat and “plump” the hair.
  4. For oily hair, use alcohol-free, pH neutral shampoo (and try conditioning hair weekly instead of daily). Continue reading »

From deep conditioning to the right diet, beautyscene’s experts—stylist Paul Labrecque, dermatologist Fredric Brandt, and nutritional consultant Oz Garcia—reveal what it takes to have the hair you’ve always wanted. By Jennifer Zabel

The right haircut or the right hair color is as individual a decision as what heels to wear. But everyone—young, old, blonde, or brunette—wants one thing when it comes to how that hair looks: Healthy, glossy, shiny.

“Dull, flat hair is one of my clients’ biggest complaints,”says Gary Howse, co-owner of the trendy downtown Seattle salon, Gary Manuel, where local celebs and Microsoft royalty go for up-to-the-minute cuts, color, and styling. Howse says major issues—like hormonal imbalances—are rarely the problem: “Little things—like brushing wet hair too hard or pulling it back too tightly—eventually turn into big problems, like a head full of broken hair.” Broken hair means one thing: very little, if any, shine.          Photo courtesy Gary Manuel Salon; cut, color, and styling by Gary Howse
The biggest mistake people make? “Perms,” says Howse. “The chemicals raise the cuticle and leave irreparable crooks and turns on the hair shaft. It’s like shining a flashlight down a crooked hallway—it’s impossible to light up the entire thing.” For the same reason, he avoids over-coloring already color-weary hair, and seals the cuticle with a color gloss. “It’s my favorite product,” he says. “There’s nothing better for instant shine.”
Celebrity stylist Paul Labrecque, whose clients include Natasha Richardson, Linda Fiorintino, and Rosie O’Donnell, believes that brushing (done gently) and less washing are the best ways to keep hair polished and healthy. “Most people don’t allow their hair to get dirty and end up over-drying it,” says Labrecque. “Less is more when it comes to shampooing—too much and you lose essential oils.”Dr. Fredric Brandt, a dermatologist with offices in New York and Miami, prescribes just the opposite: more shampooing, less brushing. “There’s no such thing as washing your hair too often,” he says. “It’s great for the scalp and absolutely does not cause hair loss.” Dr. Brandt thinks it’s how you handle your hair that matters, which means regular trims, very little brushing, and the fewer the ponytails the better.“It’s simple,” says nutritional consultant Oz Garcia, whose high protein, low carbohydrate diets have changed the lives of everyone from Nicole Miller to Robert DeNiro. “If you eat a healthy diet, your hair has more luster. And that doesn’t mean eating only fat-free— people whose diets are too low in fat tend to have dull, dry hair.On the following pages, our experts offer advice on how to make healthy, shiny hair your own.

elasticss

Half of the cure for split ends is prevention: Don’t brush your hair too much, and be sure to use a very soft brush and combs that have smooth wide-set teeth; avoid nylon bristles. And no matter what, don’t brush wet hair! If you have knots, use a wide-toothed comb or your fingers to gently detangle from the ends up, one section at a time.

Too-tight or too-heavy weaves can cause breakage, as can elastic bands — even the covered ones — and barrettes. If you put your hair in a ponytail, use a scrunchie; when wearing barrettes, take care not to catch hair in the metal clip. And if you use curlers, be sure not to wind them too tightly.
