A healthy scalp shed old hair continually and new hair grow to replace them. Baldness develops when new hair stops growing for any reason. Thinning of the hair on the scalp takes place as a normal process of aging.

Many types of baldness are temporary and normal hair growth can be restored in most cases. Temporary baldness may be a symptoms of a serious illness, skin infection or of emotional stress .

Too much of vitamin A can also cause hair fallout.

Type of hair loss :

  • Male Pattern Baldness : is the most common pattern, a man losses much or all of the hair over the top of the head.

Shaving is the cheapest and most commonly used method of hair removal. Shaving is the earliest method of hair removal known to mankind. Daily shaving for a clean cut appearance by men and women has been practiced from time immemorial. The first razors for shaving as we know them today were introduced over a hundred years ago. The popularity and simplicity of the method encouraged companies to improve the product and introduce the safety razor. When wearing sleeveless garments and shorter skirts became popular with women, the ladies safety razor was introduced. Shaving is used to remove facial hair for men and for women from the underarms, arms, legs and pubic area.

The advantages of shaving are that it is cheap and easy to use. The disadvantages are that the effect of hair removal is short lived. Hair in shaved areas can grow back in the space of a few days. Unlike other forms of hair removal, shaving removes hair from the surface of the skin; it does not pull hair out from the roots. Shaving can lead to adverse skin reactions such as ingrown hairs, redness and bumps as well as nicks and cuts if the razor is handled carelessly. Utilizing shaving cream or other moisturizing lotions while shaving can help to reduce side effects and enhance the smooth, hair free feel of your skin.

As new hair removal methods hit the market, many individuals replaced shaving with bleaching, depilatory creams, tweezing or plucking and waxing. While several of these methods are quicker than shaving, many caused additional adverse reactions, some that lasted longer than the effects of shaving. Electrolysis promised to be a permanent method of hair removal, which it is, but the procedure takes years to fully complete. The true threat to shaving as a long term hair removal method is laser hair removal. Lasers remove hair long term therefore the daily shaving routine is eliminated. With the advancement in laser technology, shaving as a method of hair removal may soon be a thing of the past.

Best-Hair-Loss

Before you consider purchasing a hair loss product, it makes sense to learn a little about hair loss– and growth.  So we’ll go over how hair grows, why people lose their hair, and potential causes of hair loss.  We’ll also cover the main ways to stop hair loss and regrow hair.

How Hair Grows

Best-Hair-LossBefore we get started, know that hair goes through different “stages”.  About 90% of the hair on a person’s head is in a 2-6 year growth stage.  The remaining 10% is in a 2-3 month resting phase.  It is estimated that most people shed about 50-150 hairs per day.  Upon shedding, the growth stage begins again as new hair from the follicle that shed replaces that hair.  In normal hair growth, this process repeats itself for many years.

Most problems with hair loss occur when this natural rate of shedding exceeds the rate of regrowth (and/or the regrowth is thinner and shorter).  Obviously this leads to baldness. Continue reading »

How-Can

You’ve probably heard that hair is a “dead” substance that cannot be revived or repaired, no matter what you do. Hair is made from a hard, fibrous protein called Keratin. Keratin is the same substance that makes up fingernails, which is why neither nails nor hair bleed or hurt when you cut them.

Hair has three layers: the cuticle, the cortex, and the medulla. The cuticle has overlapping scales that make the hair look shiny when they lie flat, and damaged when the scales are roughed up. The cortex contains your hair’s coloring pigment and gives the hair elasticity and strength. And the medulla gives hair its thickness.

affordable hair replacement With the plethora of hair replacement services advertised on television, in the newspapers, and online, more and more men are considering addressing their hair loss through non-surgical methods. There are many options for affordable hair replacement for men who have a good amount of hair left on the sides and back of their heads and who are not experiencing a rapid progression of typical male pattern baldness. The less hair a man has on his head, the more difficult it is to implement a successful hair replacement system. Continue reading »

This is the perfect “in-between-salon-visit” touch-up for those of us whose hair color is artificially enhanced to preserve that oh-so natural look.

Laurent D puts out a set of three hair lights in Brown/Black, Blonde, and Red. Each kit comes with three individual colors in their own mascara-like .33 oz tube. I have the Brown/Black kit. One tube is called Chestnut but it is a dark brownish/black which is excellent for touching up those annoying roots. The other two tubes are called Bronze and Citrine and are terrific for adding or experimenting with highlights. Neither of the highlighting shades has any red in them but each is a warm golden color with Bronze as the darker of the two. Think autumn leaves, thick fresh honey, rich molten amber and you’ll have a good sense of what those colors look like.

The application itself couldn’t be easier- just brush in daily using the wand applicator; as for removal- the color shampoos right out.

The Stepping Stones

The outside Hair on the skin consists of Dead Non Dividing cells

Basic hair careThe Hair is alive only from the root to the Scalp. Which is why we are able to cut the outside hair without any
pain. And we feel the pain only when we pull the hair from the roots. [ no harsh combing ]

Subjecting the dead cells / outside hair to too many unwanted and counter productive forces, either knowingly
or as is common, unknowingly, is not good. It has no resilience like a live part. And the base is rather fragile.
If we accept these and the related implications, Hair Care gets simplified mentally. Continue reading »

As someone who spends an inordinate amount of time stressing over the removal of body hair from places where it doesn’t belong, I’ve also become increasingly obsessed with finding ways to restore what the hair on my head once was: lush, full, and vibrant.

Enter the good folks at Viviscal.

Viviscal for Women is a natural hair nourishment regimen that promotes the growth of new hair while keeping the ones that you’ve got intact. It’s been available through specialty clinics and salons throughout Europe for years, but is now available to the masses.

Viviscal’s unique formula contains no hormones or harsh ingredients and is 100% natural. It’s pretty intriguing, actually:

At the risk of sounding like an infomercial — yep, you betcha it does. I’ve been taking it for a little over a month now, and I must admit I do notice a difference in the texture of my hair, and I kid you not, it’s more lustrous so I’m pleased thus far. It takes about 6 months for more visible results but I think I’m going to hang in there. Stay tuned.

Instead of spending hundreds of dollars and several hours draped in plastic in a salon chair each month, consider the multitude of options available in home hair color. It’s no surprise that one half of American women color their hair, but did you know 38 percent of them do the deed at home? By 2012, hair-care specialists predict that number will shoot to 45 percent. Today, do-it-yourself color kits are practically foolproof, so forgo that costly trek to the salon and toss a box of haircolor into your supermarket shopping cart.

The first hurdle in home haircolor is choosing the appropriate product. How drastic a change are you craving? What sort of maintenance can you handle? Match this criteria to one of the following categories: Continue reading »

Realistic expectations are essential to the success of hair transplantation; setting them is the responsibility of both doctor and patient. The doctor must provide each patient with enough information to make an informed decision. This is the doctor’s legal obligation. Every hair follicle lost because of genetic balding (androgenic alopecia) is lost forever. If you compare a head of hair to an apple, as the balding process progresses, parts of the apple are being lost. In cases of advanced baldness (a person with a Norwood Class 7 baldness pattern), such a person has lost up to 75% of the apple and as such, he should not reasonably expect to get a full head of hair back. What is DHT

DHT stands for Dihydrotestosterone. It’s a by-product of the male hormone called testosterone. Hair loss in vast majority of men is caused by DHT alone.

Testosterone converts to DHT with the aid of an enzyme called 5-alpha-reductase. The DHT is then induced into the blood and flows to all the parts of the body including your head scalp. The process of testosterone converting to DHT is not abnormal and happens in every man. However, it creates problems in those men who are genetically sensitive to DHT. In such men, DHT causes hair loss and eventually makes all the hair, whose hair follicles are affected by DHT, disappear.

normal hair loss

At any given point of time, between 85-90% of the hair on scalp of both men and women is in growing stage. Around 10-15% of the hair on your scalp is in resting stage. Hair in resting stage tend to remain in this stage for a period of 2 to 3 months after which they fall out and new hair grows in its place. This is a normal development cycle of healthy men and women.

People perceive women wearing tousled short hairstyles (think Meg Ryan) to be confident and outgoing according to the First Impressions and Hair Impressions study carried out at Yale University by Dr Marianne La France.

Short hairstyles – Things to consider
The most important thing to consider with a short hairstyle is the upkeep. Short hair needs to be trimmed every 4-6 weeks to keep it looking its best.

hair_transplant_diagram

The basic concept of hair transplantation is straightforward and easily understood. The hair growing on the sides and lower part of the back of the head is permanent in most people. It persists even in advanced degrees of male pattern baldness because follicles in these locations are not subject to the deleterious affects of the hormone DHT, a byproduct of testosterone. The characteristics of the individual follicles move with them when they are transplanted. Therefore, permanent hair will remain permanent regardless of where it is transplanted, a phenomena termed “donor dominance.” This is the basis of hair transplantation.

hair-loss

Most hair loss is hereditary, making the task of reversing it a bit trickier. However, there are other types of hair loss that are a direct result of something you are either doing or a medical condition you are suffering from. Hair loss prevention is more effective on this type of thinning hair. Although hair loss prevention is harder to treat when it is hereditary, there are FDA approved medications available to help slow the process as well as surgical procedures to cover up the balding areas. Obviously, your ultimate goal is to produce healthy new hair at a faster rate than you loose it. Continue reading »
