Sectioning the hair
Unless you want one or three big locs sitting on top of your head, you need to section the hair before applying a locing technique. Section the hair (as if you were going to make small individual braids), in the thickness of the locs you desire. If you want thin locs make sure the braids are parted small (medium to large parts for thicker locs). Keep in mind that locs tend to expand with maturity. It can take at least a month or two to show locing results.
Here Some Lock Hair Style:

No combs or brushes necessary; no wonder she’s smiling.
Starting Out
- Palm roll method
-Part a section of hair, place the length between your palms and roll the hair between your hands. It will form a cylindrical shape.
- Twist method
-Part a section of hair, then divide that section into two parts. Twist them around each other until you reach the ends.
- Free-form locks
-Shampoo condition and apply your oils, but do not comb. Shampoo however often you wish, but do not remove the shed hairs. After a while the shed hairs will form masses that you will not be able to untangle.
If you hair texture is tightly curled enough, you shouldn’t need any products to help it lock. If you must use something, choose a light gel or wax.
Basic Styling
During the first six months, you may find your locks hard to control; they may fly everywhere. Eventually they will begin to “drop” and you’ll have more versatility. Locks can be plaited then loosened for a crinkled effect; you can even set them on rollers. Stylist recommend that you avoid shampooing for the first 3 to 4 weeks since water will loosen the locks. You can however cleanse your scalp with cotton pads soaked in witch hazel or a mild astringent, and apply oil as necessary.
Pay Attention To
-The size you make your locks. If they’re too small, they will thin out and break off!
Avoid
Heavy shampoos and conditioners and styling products. Locks are 3-dimensional: they have length, width, and depth. Using heavy products are it difficult to rinse throughly from locks.
Curls, curls, curls… so many what to do with them? Simple! Just put them up but let some of the excess hang down to one or both sides. Place the curls where they would best frame the face and accentuate desirable features.
Hair which is permed or naturally curly requires gel and a dryer with a diffuser. When dry, place head upside down and make one or two pony tails, place them close together. Bobby pin hair so it will stay up. Curls should hide pony tails and bobby pins.
A curling iron can be used before pinning hair up to soften extremely curly or frizzy hair. Use extra hold spray and shine spray in the final touches.

Even short hair gives the illusion of an up-do easily with the right styling techniques. An evening affair is attended to by low lightening around the ears and nape areas which also create some depth and dimension.
A blow dryer and a small to medium-sized round brush achieve the perfect look. With the right products such as Guts by Redken, which gives the hair lasting hold and volume, new looks can be achieved by applying Guts to the roots.
Styling spray is used on the ends when the hair is being dried and a touch of aerosol spray with extra hold help lock the style in place. Add spray shine for final touch!

Layers continue around the back, shorter in the crown for volume and lift and gradually into longer layers.
To work the look, mousse is applied to damp hair especially at the root area where volume is needed. A paddle brush is used to dry the hair until it is almost completely dry, beginning at the roots and working down towards the ends. For the final drying stage, a large round brush is used on the front layers rolling the brush towards the face. To keep the hair looking smooth and sleek a hair polish is lightly used.

Want to go blonde, but don’t want to go blonde all over. You can see how a few well-placed highlights work to frame the face. The highlights accentuate the layers snipped around the face to soften the look.
Styling begins with a volumizing mousse and a medium- sized round brush. A spray gel is used while blow-drying the hair section by section for extra hold. After spraying the hair with hair spray for hold, use a Hair Shine spray for added shine.

What do you with uncontrollable wavy full hair? The answer is to chemically relax the hair. Once the hair is relaxed there is very little or no blow drying with a
brush to get the wave out. Add a little gel, comb and you are ready to go. If your hair is to wavy or curly to spike up, maybe a relaxer is the answer.

Hair Styles With Texture.
I have been cutting hair for a long time so I now know what cut works best with almost every hair type. (There are still some types of hair with nasty little patterns from mother nature that I can not tame without mass quantities of products). I love cutting hair that is medium in texture with a slight wave and is healthy and responsive. Of course not everyone has this utopian hair that I dream about and love so much, so for everyone else with just regular hair or maybe not so great hair, here are some suggestions about haircutting. The razor can take on many styles and has equally as many uses for haircutting. There are many actions or results that the razor can produce.
Texture for body and volume.
Removing weight for movement and manageability.
Softening of the hair and style.
Creative freedom for the stylist to carve out the cut.
The best hair for razor cutting is medium to coarse hair either straight or with wave is fine too. I have found in my hair cutting adventures that my best razor cuts are mostly on these hair types although there are many stylist that would argue for the other hair types that they have dominated with the razor as well. Always consult with an experienced stylist about your individual hair needs. Continue reading »
