Cuticle layers reflect light and make the hair shine. The cortex of the hair is just inside the cuticle layer. The cortex is made of macro and micro fibers which are protein. The protein is made of coils of amino acids. The cortex is where the hair gets most of its strength and produces color molecules (melanin). Inside the cortex are di-sulfide bonds (cysteine bonds) which give the hair incredible strength. Hair Thinning After Childbirth

After pregnancy, it is common for women to experience temporary hair thinning.

While a woman is pregnant, and hormonal changes are occurring, more hair follicles enter the growth phase than normal. About two to three months after childbirth, the normal hair cycle returns and many hairs re-enter the resting phase, which causes excessive shedding to occur.

When this happens, a woman’s hair will start to shed more than usual. As a result, most women will usually notice large amounts of hair in their combs or bathtubs.

The good news is that this is a temporary condition, and as hormone levels in the body return to pre-pregnancy levels after about six months, the excessive shedding normally ends.

If the condition does not change after six months, a woman may be experiencing hereditary hair thinning which was masked by childbirth. A dermatologist can help make a proper diagnosis.

Hair has three layers: the cuticle, the cortex, and the medulla. The cuticle has overlapping scales that make the hair look shiny when they lie flat, and damaged when the scales are roughed up. STEP 1 Wash your hair using a moisturizing shampoo. Follow with a hydrating conditioner. For extra shine, use cool water to rinse. Cooler water helps bring blood to the scalp to nourish hair follicles, and healthy follicles make the hair shine.

STEP 2 Gently towel dry the hair. Apply a moderate amount of body-building foam from the roots to the ends and comb through the hair to evenly distribute. Using your fingers, tousle the hair, placing it where you want it to fall. Let your hair air dry until it is about 70 percent finished. (Now might be a good time to have that extra cup of coffee or make those phone calls you’ve been putting off.)

STEP 3 With your hair is partially dry, finish the style using a blow dryer. Starting with one of the front side sections of hair, use your fingers as a kind of comb and work the hair in clockwise circle. Direct the dryer heat toward your hand more than the actual hair. This method allows your fingers to act as a diffuser, which protects the hair from heat and over-drying. After circling a few times, change hands and change the direction of the circle. Repeat this method for both sides of the head. The goal here is a very soft, tousled look. To dry the back of the head use the same technique. Be sure to give the hair a little extra lift at the crown.

STEP 4 To finish, emulsify a small amount of your favorite hand cream in the palms of your hands (you want just a residue of the lotion left on your hands). Work this through the hair to tame frizzies, and add softness and shine. Adjust the amount of lotion you use depending on the weight of your hair.

The most common cause of hair loss in men is Androgenetic alopecia which is also known as male pattern baldness (MPB). Men who have Androgenetic alopecia are genetically sensitive to DHT [Dihydrotestosterone]. What is DHT?

DHT stands for Dihydrotestosterone. It’s a by-product of the male hormone called testosterone. Hair loss in vast majority of men is caused by DHT alone.

Testosterone converts to DHT with the aid of an enzyme called 5-alpha-reductase. The DHT is then induced into the blood and flows to all the parts of the body including your head scalp. The process of testosterone converting to DHT is not abnormal and happens in every man. However, it creates problems in those men who are genetically sensitive to DHT. In such men, DHT causes hair loss and eventually makes all the hair, whose hair follicles are affected by DHT, disappear.
