Well, there isn’t much to tell. I just stopped using the perm. After being disappointed so many times with having my hair cut because of damage, I just gave up. Who wants see thru hair? I had actually forgotten what the real texture of my hair was like. I really love how crinkly it is and it goes even better with my hair pieces. I’ve been using human hair braid extensions. I love it because I found a braider who can do my whole head in individuals in 2 HOURS! She always does a beautiful job and I don’t have to take a whole day off of work to look cute.
I’m at the 7-month mark and I have about 3 inches of new growth with about 4 inches of perm on the ends. I took out all but a few braids in the back and I gel my hair into a ponytail that everyone thinks is all mine! Friends told me that they cut their hair off and wore wigs, but I like long hair. That’s just my preference. I’d die if my wig fell off. When I’m between braid styles, I either extend my ponytail, or wear a head wrap. I can’t do much else with the two different hair textures without ripping it out. I barely comb it. Just wet it, gel it, and beat it down with a soft brush. Continue reading »

My hair has absolutely no volume. I’ve tried to tease it; I blow-dry my hair upside down, and within an hour, it’s back to the way it was — limp. My hair, unfortunately, is straight, and it’s just below the shoulder. Any suggestions?
Answer-
I don’t know what it is. If we have curly hair, we want straight hair. If we’re blessed with straight locks, we yearn for something a little more twisted. Continue reading »

Well, here’s the thing (and I’m probably not telling you anything you don’t already know): It’s hard to have curly hair. Especially in times like these, when all of the styles shown are essentially for people with the stick-straightest of hair.
So, short of getting your hair chemically straightened (which, incidentally, a friend of mine did recently — and it looks healthy and great), what’s a gal like you to do? Accept your curls, and let your hair grow long. Of course, it depends on exactly how curly your hair is, but since longer hair weighs more, it tends to pull the curl out a bit and give you those incredible Andie MacDowell/Julia Louis-Dreyfus ringlets. The other thing that makes curly hair look its best is to layer it a bit in the front so it doesn’t just hang. Continue reading »

U n cruel lack of sebum
Fatty substance secreted by the sebaceous glands, sebum serves to lubricate and protect the hair. In people who have curly hair, sebum secretion is low and insufficient. Result: the hair is dry and more vulnerable to external aggressions (sun, wind, cold, combing, straightening, coloring, straightening, …).
A n scalp not adapted to European climate
In addition, our scalp is adapted to humid climates. The decrease of moisture in Europe has resulted in a tightening pores, preventing the sebum (already weak by nature) to drain properly out of the scalp. This further accentuates drought and curl our hair. Continue reading »
The points represent the weakest part of frizzy hair. Not only our scalp secretes little sebum (an oily substance lubricating and protective) but it also has difficulties to progress to the ends. Here are some reasons that should push you to take better care of your tips.
Dry ends … poor distribution of sebum!
The sebum flows more easily than on a straight hair on a curly hair (irregular surface). Indeed, hampered by the loops, it does not reach the peak. And if the oil has come through time and continues to be the buzz is that some hair must find their account, right? No offense to those who are hunting for mineral oils … Continue reading »

No need to suffer. The “frizzies,” caused by lack of moisture, is a common problem. Damien Miano, co-owner of Miano-Viel Salon & Spa in New York, suggests these tips to achieve beautiful smooth hair at home:
1) Start off with not-so-clean hair. Instead of shampooing, which strips hair of moisture, just wet and condition with a conditioner made for your hair type (color-treated, dry, or fine). Don’t rinse all of the conditioner out of the hair. (Only rinse for 20 to 30 seconds.)
2) Coat hair with a straightening balm or smoothing gel. (Try: Alterna Hemp Seed Straightening Balm or Salon Selectives Smoothing Gel.) This will make the brush glide more easily through the hair and will coat the hair to prevent loss of moisture. Try to use a flat brush with combination natural and nylon bristles. (Try: Mason Pearson Combination Bristle brush.) Continue reading »

You’ve probably heard that hair is a “dead” substance that cannot be revived or repaired, no matter what you do. Hair is made from a hard, fibrous protein called Keratin. Keratin is the same substance that makes up fingernails, which is why neither nails nor hair bleed or hurt when you cut them.
Hair has three layers: the cuticle, the cortex, and the medulla. The cuticle has overlapping scales that make the hair look shiny when they lie flat, and damaged when the scales are roughed up. The cortex contains your hair’s coloring pigment and gives the hair elasticity and strength. And the medulla gives hair its thickness.
The hair follicle is a cavity in the scalp surrounded by cells called papillae. Papillae are gorged with blood from capillaries, which stimulate them to make hair cells. These hair cells harden or keratinize, die, and become the hair shaft. The dead hair is then pushed out through the living follicle.

Prom hairstyles comprise of both updo and down hairstyles. Prom hairstyles largely depend on your face cut, your hair length as well as your hair texture. For instance if a women is wearing a topless gown or prom dress for her special night she can wear it hair down in curls or waves ads her choice of prom hairstyles for that night. This is a good option for all those women who have beautiful and healthy long hair and a round and chubby face. It is also a good idea to wear your hair in a bun or a chignon if your prom night gown has a high ban collar or a closed collar neckline since your hair would not get stuck in your dress this way.

Obtaining straight hair styles when you have curly, kinky, wavy or frizzy hair can be a difficult thing to do if you do not want to run the risk of damaging the hair permanently. Hair straighteners can be fairly strong chemical applications used to soften the hair. This process is also known as relaxing, and in this process the basic curly structure of the hair is broken down and changed into a straight form.
How to Straighten Hair
There are several natural ways to straighten curly hair. These processes are less damaging on the hair, depending on the treatment, and the results can be possibly less long-lasting. Some examples of natural ways to straighten curly hair are: Continue reading »
