The latest fad to jump from the runways to real life is dressing up your ‘do with jewels. Richard Dalton, fashion director of the John Paul Mitchell Systems styling team, created the look at a number of fashion shows this season by adding Asprey (the real McCoy) jewelry to models’ hair.

The effect was nothing short of glamorous. The trend was also rampant at the Oscars — Cameron Diaz and Helena Bonham Carter sported simple, fabulous diamond hair clips; Salma Hayak took it one step further, crowning herself with a sparkling tiara. But you don’t have to be a Hollywood princess to get the look. Dalton says, “It’s as easy as taking the jewel-studded broach you were going to wear on your dinner jacket and putting it in your hair.” (Just remember to secure it tightly!)

If you’re not comfortable wearing real jewelry in your ‘do, fake it with a sparkling headband, clip or hair stick. Companies such as Colette Malouf, Anne Vuille and Agatha make beautiful copies for your coif. After all, there is a little princess in all of us.
